The Mount Cheam Lions Turkey Draw is a unique lottery which the Club has done for many years. It happens every year at the Chilliwack Mall during the month of December. Members set up a booth and decorate it in Christmas colors and the faithful flock to pick off the colored spots and pay the amount which is hidden underneath. The player then enter their name and phone number on the numbered lines on the bottom of the card. Many players enjoy the game so much that they come back on a regular basis and eagerly await the start of the Turkey Draw each year. The amount ranges from 0 cents to 99 cents and the numbers are randomly placed on the card, every number from 0 to 99. In the early days of the Turkey Draw the winner of each card actually won a turkey, however in modern times the winner receives a $25.00 gift certificate from Fraser Valley Meats. Each card has one winner and when the total card is sold we uncover the winning number and the winner is contacted by phone and picks up their prize. We sell around 100 to 125 cards per year. This year 2008 the proceeds went to the Chilliwack Hospital Emergency Ward Expansion Project to be used for equipment or patient care. Each year the Lotteries Branch has a hard time classifying this lottery but have finally decided that it fits in the meat draw section. You can see an actual card in the photo below.
